"The pay at NREL is decent, but if you start as an intern, you will remain in "intern limbo" for years. For example, another colleague was an intern for 3 years before being hired. There is an excuse that it is federal government and therefore there seems to be a sense of entitlement at getting interns to work cheaply as long as possible. HR process is problematic for employees with disabilities. There is a lack of inclusion in decision making or advancement as well. Right now, I am paid about 30% of my market worth by NREL, even though my productivity has been excellent, and looking to move to a company that believes in fair compensation."
