Program Manager
in Columbia, MD

"It may be a great company one day but right now it is just a good one."

What do you like about working at MICROS Systems?

"They have installations at some of the most beautiful hotels, casinos, and cruise ships around the world in over 140 countries. The travel is definitely the best part of working here. All the people are nice hard working people. You have to be hard working to survive in the MICROS jungle."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Know everything about the company before going to the interview. They hardly ever like to hire people that have not had some experience with one of their product lines. Also shoot high when you negotiate your salary, because a raise maybe a long time in coming. They give sales more respect and money than all the other technology professionals and engineers. They will hire a car salesman with no education and pay him more and even promote him to VP if he can have at least one good year. Sales is definitely the best way to the top within this organization."

What don't you like about working at MICROS Systems?

"Upper level management micro-manages employees. The upper level execs still have a 1960's way of managing people. This style will continue until the President retires, but he will most likely not retire until death."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop micro-managing and concentrate more on the big picture and what direction the technology is going. It took you guys forever to have a product with an open ended database on a windows platform. This should have happened years before it actually did and who knows how much market share the company lost while your engineers and developers were still holding on to the old stuff."
