"it's the biggest little place ever. although there are thousands of employees, there is 1 person that does job X and if that person is on vacation, you will just have to wait."

"bureaucratic, too big for its own good, too many exceptions to processes preventing continuity throughout the system"

"work to reduce redundancies, focus on interdepartmental communication, encourage hospital-wide consistencies"

Working in a high paced, extremely high acuity environment with the best minds, technology and resources makes MGH a superb place to work. As a Registered Nurse I have the best ratios and the most support that can be offered. I feel like I am a valued professional who is included in the growing world of medicine and Nursing as a profession."

"Be secure in yourself. MGH is a wonderful place to grow and learn from the best. Ask questions and be open to constructive criticism."

What don't you like about working at Massachusetts General Hospital?

"No hospital is perfect however I have worked at many facilities and MGH is beyond any other facility I have worked with. In my personal unit, the nursing staff is a group of highly intelligent, extremely skilled group that promotes patient safety, advocacy and health promotion. Being a nurse is a very difficult profession because you constantly have to filter exactly how a patients care is managed. At times the nurse-doctor relationship can be somewhat difficult due to our highly autonomous role and overwhelming ability to manage extremely sick individuals."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"MGH has the history of setting and maintaining the gold standard of medicine, practice and research. If money grew on trees some of the older buildings would be gutted and new patient rooms and units would be renovated. I would also ensure that the people working in the trenches had their part in the design of units to best allow for a unit that runs smoothly and is practical."

"Be prepared and knowing the company and technologies in depth"

"As a big eastablished orgnization, the reponse to new technologies are usally slow, which is normal to big organization but challenge to individual to keep up with fast moving world"

"More actively looking and utilizing new technolgies to improve and enhance the applicatios."

"I would do some research into the department that you are going to interview with and ask them about growth opportunities."

"My department doesn't make it easy for people to grow within the company, and you do not get rewarded for all the time and effort you put into the job"

"To actually communicate with their employees so there isn't mass confusion as to who does what so that things can be done more efficiently"

"I didn't like any more to used animal for biotechnology reserch I become so emmotional about using live animals in vitro"

"try to find ways to reduce animal used in biotechnology where we can use computire simulations"

"The work is boring and I'm in an office all day staring at a computer."

"My management is great, its just the nature of the job that I don't like."

"The sense of respect that each of us receives, also we happen to receive much support. We also have summer outings, and free flu shots, many perks that other companies don't provide. Also our president communicates with us about everything, which in this day and age is rare."
