"Very good company with extremely poor management. I had heard very good things about the company and chose them out of (2) offers. I knew I was in for something special when the woman in charge, with little to no construction experience, was talking in circles to one of my old clients. Because this person had a previous relationship with the main manager, he hired her to run construction members. She is absolutely clueless and it is universally recognized that she should not be in this position. Extremely poor safety record and they don't seem to care. We eliminated all of my clients because we couldn't work there. The other item is, you can't speak your mind or recommend better ways of doing something. They just don't care. The main manager is an egomaniac, pretty smart and well-spoken, but someone who should not be in his current position. They have some talented craftsmen that are dedicated and caring, but extremely frustrated with management. McKinstry Portland has no work going on due to poor management and bidding practices. While our competition "JH Kelly, Harder, Charter" are all buried, McKinstry has no work. We had to lay off some great people, all due to clueless individuals in charge. Great Company Management Needs Overhauled"
"When working for the company they were great, but when you leave they drop you like a bad habit. I worked hard for them and when I left I got cut off like I never worked there."
"I worked at McKinstry for 6 years. During my time there I can honestly say I loved my job. The working environment was one that made you feel important and part of a family. I do think the company grew too fast and internal promotions were hard to come by. Overall it is a great company."
