"I contracted at Matlock and found it to be an eye-opening experience to say the least. While I appreciated the value of working in a Multicultural environment, I found Matlock to be far less professional than other agencies I'd contracted with before. I had interesting work, for the most part, but the inter-office dealings and racial tensions were difficult to navigate. But maybe things have changed since then."

"This review is honest and exclusively based on my own experience and observations at Matlock ADPR in Atlanta, GA."

What do you like about working at Matlock Advertising and Public Relations?

"I loved that Matlock was open to new ideas and innovative ways of approaching certain campaigns. I enjoyed that the majority of people on the creative floor were, in fact, creative and seemed to get along pretty well. I enjoyed feeling like my opinion was valuable and that people believed in my abilities. It was fun to work there."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Know what you're there for. This is a great place to build your resume, but you won't necessarily be doing what you may think you're going there to do. It's a job. There's a lot of grunt work and not-so-desirable clients that may make it feel like this is not what you want to do, but it's a pay check and you will learn how the industry works. Go there to work, get paid, and go home, and you will be alright."

What don't you like about working at Matlock Advertising and Public Relations?

"Matlock is a very clique-based, gossipy firm. If one of the higher-ups didn't like you, it was easy for them to make your life hellacious. A lot of what was promised was never delivered, and there seemed to be no job security. It was acceptable for people to expect you to do an exorbitant amount of work for little or no compensation to better the company, but those requiring the work from you were well-to-do. They were not interested in justly compensating those who were carrying the burden. Also, when you fill out the desired salary requirements, they hire you on at what they have decided to cap you at without ever discussing your needs. Then they promise to move you up based on your stellar performance and abilities and it never happens. I've seen an encountered situations where the employee was told whatever was necessary to get the work done though there was never any follow through on the employer's end. It was very frustrating."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Management should learn to manage and listen to the driving force of the company, the employees. The management is not there to make friends and stifle those who they do not consider friends. They were too clique-based and adopted a you can be replaced attitude when things didn't go their way. We all hated that and it was no secret if you were in the in crowd or not. Management should know we depend on them to manage. They should do what they promise and lead by example."
