What do you like about working at Markel?
"Good people who are generally well meaning. There is a lot of potential if the company gets out of its own way and becomes more mature. Need's to update is approach to associates and management focus."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Make sure you clearly understand the role and expectations. The roles generally aren't very clear and expectations aren't outlined well. That can make for bad outcomes for all."
What don't you like about working at Markel?
"In IT things shift a lot. I am good at what I do but must shift gears a lot. Not a lot of clear direction that stays consistent for long. I can do more and that is frustrating."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Overhaul HR, and IT since those seems to be week spots. HR doesn't seem to add any value and even works against some of what you would think they should work toward. IT needs to make lots of changes. Good folks, but not very good processes or strategies."
