Working at lynda.com in Carpinteria, CA: 2 Employee Reviews

lynda.com Employee

"The company has a hard time determining which projects are important enough to follow through to completion. While the owners used to be super visible and played an active role in daily activities in the company, they have scaled back their involvement. The platform is fragmented between versions of .NET and is difficult to work with. For the most part the people are really great and they do treat the employees really well. If you are looking for work it's not a bad place to be by any means."

"It could be a good fit if you take into account all of the above."

What do you like about working at lynda.com?

"The level of talent and drive at the individual contributor level was enormous. It's a passionate, creative bunch of people. They are truly dedicated to quality training."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The pay can be good but the job security is low. They have no loyalty to their employees. It might be good for individual contributors tied to Santa Barbara. Management is a high-risk, revolving door."

What don't you like about working at lynda.com?

"Peel back the seemingly happy, SoCal facade and you find a completely dysfunctional, mismanaged company. Employees are not empowered to make their own decisions. Directives are top-down. There is lots of fear due to constant layoffs. The strategy changes weekly. Lastly, it's not a merit-based environment. Whomever is liked by the top dogs, wins."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Recognize you're in over your head and bring in true professional management. Stop with the firings."
