A logistics manager is often responsible for the security and integrity of the items being handled.
Skillset: Logistics managers must be able to multitasks and manage different departments simultaneously. A logistics manager needs mathematical skills to analyze freight charges and warehouse space utilization. This position also requires negotiation or organization skills to facilitate inbound and outbound shipments through various modes of transportation.
Education: It is not uncommon for a logistics manager to work their way up from the bottom with little formal education. However, logistics managers often have a college degree in a related field. APICS certification in supply chain logistics is often desired by employers.
Career Path: The logistics manager position requires a lot of hands on experience. Internships often provide job candidates with a competitive advantage. Previous work experience in a related field is often necessary to be successful.
