Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"only use this job as a stepping stone to another...don't plan on spending serious time on this job.they're into the 'presentation'. look good, smile, and dazzle them with BS. its worked for most of the people already there.be aware that if you're hot, you've got a good chance of getting hired."

What don't you like about working at Javitch, Block & Rathbone?

"they cant get past their pettiness. its all about personality contests and whether one is liked or not. if one's performance is above average, promotion is highly unlikely in that one is making them too much money to promote. tuition reimbursement is available only for the chosen few. they're not interested in new ideas, unless they thought of them first."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"get out of your ivory towers and actually talk to your employees. reinterpret your 'open door' policy. it does not mean one has to schedule an appointment listing the subject matter of that appointment, etc. and then once the appointment is kept, the employee is met by a phalanx of management on the offense.stop the micromanaging. some people are self-policing, others are not. keep the micromanaging for those who are not.develop a sense of history. its not all about you. be aware of how your actions (to your employees) will be remembered for eons and eons. don't tell your employees that everything is fine and to get back to work when 9-11 hit. or send an email out to the entire staff notifying them of the passing of a co-worker who was there for 6-7 years. have some compassion, and again be aware of your impact on your staff.have round-table discussions. and not with attorneys. try working with the people who are making you your revenue. be open to change. if something doesn't work. admit it, and try something else and be open to ideas from your own employees. these are the people who have to implement your ideas. they know whether it'll work or not.get rid of your arrogance. don't promote because you like someone.develop a sense of humor, and don't take yourselves too seriously.look around and see if people are actually smiling. and there's laughter.develop the ability to have a professional relationship with an employee. you many not like them, but as long as they do the work and are respectful, then they still have value."
