What do you like about working at Health Care Service Corp.?
"Great view of downtown Chicago and the lakefront from their building on Randolph St."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Understand that this is a bureaucracy which makes the government look efficient. All the problems with a management-heavy, technically unskilled supervisory structure are in play. There are far too many user types with little or no systems experience for a shop this size and the burden will fall heavily on you, especially as a contractor. By the way, contractors are treated rather shabbily so do not go in with any ego or personal pride as you will be continually frustrated."
What don't you like about working at Health Care Service Corp.?
"The technology is antiquated and the bureaucracy is monumental. The management consists largely of women new to IT and management and there are constant territorial struggles making getting things done difficult. Far too many chiefs and not nearly enough indians in this tribe."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Get some managers who have technical experience and competence, reduce the sheer number of managers and supervisors, slash out the tons of dead wood on the organization chart and get down to functional organization structures."

"Pay is sub-par along with the hours. Recruiters are not particularly concerned with your welfare."
