Working at Imbellus in Los Angeles, CA: 1 Employee Reviews

Imbellus Employee

"Pros Hands down the best work culture I have ever experienced. So much camaraderie, care, kindness, and talent. This place is so much fun! Board game days! Mindfulness workshops! Virtual trivia nights! Cooking channels! Weeks filled with company events! Everyone here is extremely smart and good at what they do. People from top schools and companies come to work here. There is a diverse set of opinions meaning discussions -whether work related or water cooler talk - are always interesting and lively. Imbellus' slack game is on point. There are work channels and fun channels to be productive and get distracted! The remote culture is great! Super flexible, convenient, and everyone still responds quickly and gets their work done. The work here is impactful and interesting if you are aligned with the mission of improving education and testing. Managers are extremely supportive of personal growth and do not micromanage - so working with them is very pleasant! The office is/was spacious and in a very nice area! It was used for local employees and on-site events before covid. Bottomline: if you are thinking of applying, apply! If you get the chance to work here, take it! Cons The proprietary game engine used here is extremely buggy and inefficient. Tasks that should take five minutes end up taking hours or requiring new feature requests for the game engines. Everyone is understanding of this and timelines are set accordingly, but still a major pain point. Even with this con, the tech stack is always evolving and there is a lot to learn and contribute on this front. The design process can be very slow and inefficient. Because there are so many departments (psychometrics, learning science, design, engineering, art), every department has different priorities and meeting all of these competing priorities is an ongoing challenge."
