2.6I worked for Hilton Software for 6 months. In my first week, I heard horror stories from my coworkers about the terrible software engineering methodologies and slew of previous employees that got laid off. At first I thought they were exaggerating but I now know they were 100% honest. There is absolutely no planning or typical best practices employed here. The company is controlled by a narcissistic CEO who would rather be a programmer than a CEO. As a result, the company suffers as a whole. Engineers are pigeon-holed and solely responsible for adding features after they are implemented for iOS. As a result, engineers are constantly playing catch up with the one person who wants to add features to iOS and create massive bugs in their wake. This is deeply frustrating for engineering because we are constantly putting out fires and frequently making breaking changes that are a result of no-planning occurring in the software development life cycle. Often we are told to just "hard code it" instead of fixing problems the right way. In addition to dealing with massive regressions caused by our senior leader, the engineering team will frequently have their great ideas ignored. I was getting paid to be a code monkey.
There isn't really a QA team at Hilton as of March 2015. There are two young girls with no QA experience that bash on the apps before they are released. I do not believe the apps are well tested and bugs are frequently released publicly. Furthermore, I believe there may be some kind of relationship between these girls and their manager because they are paid well to provided zero value for the company.
One of the good things about working at Hilton Software is that salaries are highly competitive and people are frequently rewarded for absolutely little effort. If you interview here, make sure to ask for a lot of money. If a programmer can get PTSD, it will be from fighting the daily battles at Hilton Software.
