"This is not really applicable with regard to my current company as I am the owner. Therefore the review that I am offering is for my former company Herley Industries When I arrived at Herley Industries I found the company to be a perfect fit for me as they operated with a fairly "skeleton crew": that is, there was virtually no redundancy in personnel--they had one RF design engineer, one digital, analog, power supply and firmware engineer (me), one draftsman, one PC layout person, etc.. They were known at the time as a fairly easy company from which to be fired--there was no place to hide if you were unable or unwilling to give your best effort. I flourished there. As the years went by Herley grew and gradually became bloated, and eventually replaced their original fairly flat organizational structure with an UNNECESSARILY COMPLEX matrix-style where multiple layers were filled with people whose job it seemed was to block progress. Now please do not misunderstand me--I was an ISO9000 and AS9100 lead auditor so I completely understand the requirement for process control, especially in my particular (military avionics) field. However, there is a fine line between control and impediment. In my opinion they eventually crossed it."
