What don't you like about working at Greif?
"Upper management at Greif, Delaware, Ohio, was always trying to implement a Lean program. A group was formed to travel all over the country to various Greif locations. Their goal was to save time and money. The onset was good, later it became difficult. A few seconds reduction time on a machine could save the cycle time on the manufacturing process, but the production worker was pushed to greater demands. Human errors were more likely to occur, rejects increased due physical exhaustion. Workforce was reduced, jobs were eliminated. Where there were 5 or 6 workers performing the job requirements, were now 3 or 4 workers."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"My suggestion would be to eliminate the traveling Lean program. Three or four individuals, salaries of 60K each, travel expenses, car rentals, hotel accommodations plus meals. Thus saving at least a quarter million dollars per year."
