What do you like about working at Gateway Counseling Center?

"I earned money to feed my family. That's about all."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't unless you're desperate or really, really passionate about this career. If that's the case, FYI this organization is probably the highest-paying of its type in its locale. That's part of what kept me there for so long."

What don't you like about working at Gateway Counseling Center?

"The biggest thing was that I got in trouble for trying to be helpful. Honestly, my boss seemed to not like me. It wasn't just me, though- she has certain personality issues that make her seem not to like anyone. She's a good fit for her job responsibilities but unpleasant to deal with."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"-More empowerment of the employees, i.e. encouraging coming up with new ideas and actually showing signs of being interested in implementing them-actually doing what the program is supposed to do, i.e. help people with developmental disabilities, instead of just allowing many high-functioning people to hang out in the building doing things that are beneath their capabilities just to collect money from the government. (One of my clients mentioned a job skill she has but because these organizations are required to bend over backwards to give these people choices to do whatever they want this client chose to sit at a computer and watch music videos most days, using our taxpayer dollars to pay for her program attendance, rather than her working in something within her capabilities, being productive, and earning her own money.)-go easy on the criticism for employees trying their best and not make people feel like they're in trouble every time they try to go above and beyond to be helpful. Appreciate the good things that employees do."
