"I worked for The Daily Ardmoreite (Gatehouse Media), from July 2016 to May 2017. It was a challenging position due to the newspaper had a poor reputation, within the local business community, due to what some considered a poor return on investment and high advertising prices. They were beginning to get into online advertising and doing SEM & SEO campaigns, for their clientele. I spent the majority of my time overcoming objections from business as to why they wouldn't advertise in the paper anymore. I was able to win some of those clients back and sign them to advertising contracts for 6 months to a year. The atmosphere was laid back and the coworkers were great to work with. If you like challenging situations then this is a job for you."

"A great place to work if you are just starting out or still in school. The managers are great and the work is good. The work is not always exciting but it is fairly consistent. Everyone there is really nice and are more than willing to help you if they have time. It is a fast paced environment and very deadline driven. I loved working there but wasn't able to move with the company when they transferred to Austin, TX."

"While GateHouse Media values its employees, the compensation does not match the job. I was hired to be a digital coordinator, but I have since designed and sold full advertising campaigns with no compensation and have taken on the responsibility of 2.5 jobs with no pay increase. Their unwillingness to properly pay their GOOD employees is going to force them to close their doors one day."

"Miserable."

What do you like about working at GateHouse Media?

"Good vacation time if you can keep your job long enough to earn it."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Stay as far away as possible. I have been with the company for the better part of a decade. Staying with GateHouse was, without a doubt, the worst career mistake I have ever made. The longer I stay, the worse it gets."

What don't you like about working at GateHouse Media?

"We are micro managed to death by upper management who has no idea what it is like to work in a newsroom. There is NO job security, at any level. The longer you work there, the more likely you are to be fired."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get rid of Inner Circle. It doesn't accomplish anything. Your newsroom staff everywhere is overworked, under paid and completely stressed out, 100 percent of the time. Worst of all, we are under-appreciated. The only time we hear from management is when something is going wrong. My newsroom, as well as most others, is filled with people that want to love their jobs, that want to do it well, but we are constantly being held back by GateHouse."

"Don't work for Gatehouse Media."

What do you like about working at GateHouse Media?

"St. James, MissourI is a wonderful city. The people in the city are fantastic to work with."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just don't interview."

What don't you like about working at GateHouse Media?

"Gatehouse Media is a poor company to work for. They are dishonest and overly demanding. Superiors are often sneaky. Overall, Gatehouse Media is very understaffed. This is especially true at the St. James Leader Journal. The salaried employees are expected to do well more than his or her share. An outside life is frowned upon. Compensation was poor. When promised raises for anniversaries, they were never received."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Follow contracts. If raises are promised at one year, give them. Fire inefficient management. Smaller newspapers should not be ignored because there is room for competition and small towns know it. Your actions are a lawsuit waiting to happen."
