What do you like about working at Fuzziwigs Candy Factory?

"The one thing I did like about the company, was the fact I was the manager and that gave me the ability to speak up on behalf of the employees and voice concerns about other problems I found at the store. And when I received the 3 day pay or vacate notice, due to the fact the owner owed almost a years worth of rent, I called a meeting with them. I explained to them what was going on. I told them what little I knew. I told them if they chose to quit, I would completely understand. If they chose to stay, that would be great. They asked me what I was going to do. I told them I was staying, that I had a store to run and that I would stay until they either kicked me out or locked me out. All of them, each of my employees stayed with me up to the very end. The very last day. They trusted me. I had been honest with them. They respected me and were loyal. Not loyal to the company, they were loyal to me. Because I treated them like they mattered."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Before you decide to interview, do some research and find out about turn over. if there are multiple turn overs, it's either the store manager or it's the DM. Could even be the owner. Either way, it means there's an internal problem."

What don't you like about working at Fuzziwigs Candy Factory?

"DM did not have the experience that should have been required to be a DM. For example: me being in my 40's and having plenty of management experience and the DM being in her 20's and having limited experience with everything, she should have heeded my warning about the ceiling leak. Instead, she told me to not turn off the AC and the tech was standing right there and was saying it needed to be turned off. She said no. Ok, I did it her way, which ended up costing the store. How Well, when I came in the nest morning, there were ceiling tiles and water every where. I was not able to open for many hours. If we had been opened and those tiles had collapsed on someone, it would have been a law suit."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Listen to the managers. You don't need DM's if you hire competent managers. If you need help with that, then you should hire me to do it for you. Because I'm better than good... Treat the employees like they matter. Respect them. Listen to them. Don't talk down to them."
