"All of the above statements would still apply had Taylor, Bean & Whitaker not closed."
What do you like about working at Bean & Whitaker Mortgage?
"The fast paced environment and the family atmosphere. No matter how big the company grew, they always had a small feeling. Help was always available if needed. They trained their employees with regular online classes. Management was always open to new ideas and input from the staff. They were very team oriented and professional in every aspect of the mortgage business."
What don't you like about working at Bean & Whitaker Mortgage?
"As a closer, your hours were determined by the closings that were going on, making it difficult to plan things with your family / friends at night because you weren't always able to leave at a decent time. I didn't mind working the long hours. In the beginning, they allowed us to take a few hours comp time to make up for the time we'd taken away from our personal lives in order to do our jobs. In Jan of 08, they changed us to hourly employees. Therefore, the comp time option was eliminated. The O/T pay was nice, but personally, I would have rather worked 50+ hours this week knowing that I'd be able to take 2 or 3 hours on a slow day to do something that I'd missed out on because of working so late the previous week. Time taken away from your family and yourself is hard to recapture. It was a very good balance up until the point this went into effect. I adjusted to it and figured if this was the worst thing that ever happened too me, I was still pretty lucky to be employed with TB & W."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"My manager was great. We had a very good relationship. However, I observed others in management positions who'd sometimes talk about their employees without realizing they were infront of other co-workers of that employee. They'd sometimes go to an employee's co-workers and ask several questions regarding something about this employee, before addressing the situation with the individual. In some cases, this is a necessisity. However, there were many times, it would end up starting office gossip and rumours that would hurt an individual. I think management should be able to keep certain things a little more private so needless office stress doesn't happen."
