"I accepted a job at DPA Architects after confirming two things with them. The first was that I would receive healthcare after 3 months. The second was that I would be able to work in Revit, a 3D software that more and more firms require today. I received my healthcare after 6 months and I was only allowed to work on Revit for 3 1/2 months. In addition, I was quite disturbed when I realized that there were no meetings, no schedules, no project scope at the start of projects and very little communication or coordination with the staff and consultants. I knew I was in for a ride when the CEO asked me, after 3 months after my hire, if I was an architect, or a designer. Considering that there are only 15 employees in the office, it showed me how little the upper management knows about or cares about the people they hire. The most shocking thing was to hear that They do not believe that project management provides any benefits to small firms. To their credit, they recognized their error in not providing me with healthcare and they have promised to cover me for 6 months in consequence. They champion a "sink or swim" mentality and mentoring and providing a friendly, nurturing environment is way down on their list of priorities."
