"Interesting Work, Toxic Atmosphere"

What do you like about working at Cubic Corp.?

"The work was interesting, largely due to who the client was. I was just out of grad school with a master's degree, so I got to do work that was similar to the research I did there. I got to grow a project over a couple years and see it blossom into a vehicle that kept other employees (and interns) engaged."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be careful what you ask in the interview. Look for small things, like whether you'll have an office with a door that closes."

What don't you like about working at Cubic Corp.?

"The uber-boss. He had an eccentric personality and divided people to keep control. Fortunately, my immediate supervisor was much more reasonable. The office politics were toxic - people knew things about each other that professionals ought not to know."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Put people first and care about employee relations. You are not tyrants - this is America."

"neighborhood cubic is located in is difficult to get to in rush hour"

"Really none. I never had a bad experience with management"

"Good opportunity to write your own drivers and upgrade existing designs. Worthwhile oppurtunity to work with LAN based communications and diverse networks of stand alone systems."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"C++ must be a strength of yours, be familiar with embedded system requirements and LAN programming."

What don't you like about working at Cubic Corp.?

"Overly complex software design lacking good organization and standardization of interfaces. I had to produce most of their existing documentation before I could approach the product closely. Management failed to support most of their promotion and title promises. The company is run by a very old general manager who doesn't understand software development needs and supports a great deal of litigation with his customers."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Move into the modern world and split the code into a main application and loadable DLLs. Provide a reliable career path for your critical people and actually produce an employee retention program instead of the layoff jumble you now employ."
