"First-up, I LOVE what I do! But despise the company. Been here for 10 yrs and just got laid off. I've dealt with layoffs in the past and figured after 7 yrs or so I should be okay. If I wouldn't have taken engineer school a year ago, I would have been furloughed again. Job is not dependable at all unless you live in big big cities where population is in abundance and jobs are plentiful. Erwin is country and we are treated like a number and that's how it'll always be. Always has been. It's also the training grounds for Trainmasters, Road Foremen, and overall just officials. They all have a different meaning to a rule and no answers are the same. You have to hope that they are lenient and not trying to show their control like most straight off the street officials do. It's all in their heads and they don't understand, you good to me and I'm good to you basis. Not much good to say but when you can work it's 24/7 or you're fired or furloughed and screwed either way. This is an honest review of my experience up to date. Pays great but not where I'm at, we're lowest paid, just an all out joke. They do what they want, union dues ain't nothing but another payment outta ya check, and they're as weak as water! Can't have a legit union with a multi billion $ company and union office under the same roof. BAAAhahaha, I know right! This place blows my mind. I can honestly sit here and go on and on and on but please, if you have a good Monday thru Friday job that will pay you $40,000 or better, stay with 'em because the extra you make ain't worth the stress, life, nor your family. You can count on that! They preach safety, safety, safety, but do something for me. Look up how many days you can be unavailable and even have doctors excuse on the C1 extra board in Erwin TN, with no off days, and you will work every weekend guaranteed. when is your family off?
