What do you like about working at Crossroads for Youth?
"I enjoy getting to work with kids and families and the moment when the youth finally realize that what the adults have been telling them all along is true."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Give yourself a timeline for when you want to leave, a list of skills you want to hone, and leave at the end of your timeline. I would recommend no longer than a year. Your supervisor and coworkers are not even allowed to write you a reference letter; the HR department will only verify the years you worked there and the last position you held to potential employers. Do not waste your time. It is precious! That being said, it is a good resume builder."
What don't you like about working at Crossroads for Youth?
"Employees are not made to feel appreciated; we are not rewarded for our hard work. We have taken pay cuts but we continue to pay for our President's vehicle and home. Our facilities and technology are old, there is a high turnover rate, and everyone is burnt out. When we have ideas on how to improve our organization and the services we provide we are usually told no and given a list of reasons why it wouldn't work."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I would make a concerted effort to know the people that work for my organization each day, know what is going on in the organization, ask my employees what they need to do their jobs better instead of ordering them to do more work with less pay and less resources. I would reward those who perform well on the job and discipline/fire those that do not. I would engage with community members and let them know about the great work my employees are doing for the children and families in our community."
