"Look for a good employer - Not CORT"
What do you like about working at CORT?
"I liked the idea of working for a Berkshire Hathaway Company - security, reputation, etc. I liked the challenges it presented and the structure it provided with regard to operational procedures."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"If you are considering a position with CORT, you can ace the interviews with a belief system of anything for money. With CORT, they will do anything for anyone at anytime for the right amount of money. But, I would recommend that anyone considering a position with CORT have a candid conversation with their family. You WILL lose your personal life to the Company."
What don't you like about working at CORT?
"Absolutely no work/life balance...I averaged 14 hour days and never worked less than 8 but frequently worked 16-18. My immediate superior often compromised the integrity of my operations by over-committing my team and superiors gave direct orders which were in conflict with OSHA, DOT & Company SOP. I have never dealt with such an incompetent immediate superior. The autonomy is really an illusion. While you are expected to operation your business segment, you are not provided with the autonomy or tools to do so leading to hyper-criticism. I have never been so ashamed of a place of employment which is why I checked out. When I voiced my concerns with HR, I was met with significant scrutiny and came under pressure from my immediate superior & one echelon higher."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Learn to trust the direction given to you by the Managers. I came to CORT with over 10 years of industry experience and when I made suggestions I was disregarded. People do not want to work 14 hour days and it is unreasonable. However, the long days are often the result of incompetent decisions at the DGM level which have a direct impact on the operations."
