"The people I work with make my job great. I also love the projects I am handed. I have a sense of entitlement when I can help the company save money here or there."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"When interviewing with HR, if you are an engineer, remember that they have no idea about the systems they are hiring you for. Save the good stuff for the manager of the engineering department."

What don't you like about working at Columbus McKinnon?

"Currently my hours are harsh, I go in at 5 A.M., school from 12-4 then work again for a couple of hours, depending on the need."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"We have a meeting every Thursday to discuss project status. All 8 engineers are present and discuss each project. This is a bit time consuming, I understand the idea but the time taken, normally 2-3 hours could be spent working."

"Upper management at the directors level treat all people as lazy ignorants and always bring people from the outside when issues arise with out giving the local team a chance to fix or learn."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I will pay attention to the employee needs. I will encourage and promote a culture of open communication. I will let managers do their jobs and stop the micromanaging. I will not treat the people as complete lazy ignorants as the do today, I will encourage a more family friendly hours and promote professional growth."
