What do you like about working at College of the Atlantic?
"It's a very passionate environment to work in. A lot of people are incredibly invested in their work, and in general everyone is pretty much invested in the well-being of people and the natural world."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Be yourself. You should be prepared to make a day of it. The more you talk with the faculty, staff and students, the better."
What don't you like about working at College of the Atlantic?
"At times I feel like I've reached my cap, and I tend to take on a lot of extra projects, which I don't mind. I fill a void that would not be here. However, it's so personal that there tends to be a lack of monetary compensation when you specialize in something. We are a non-profit, so our staff tends to also have a harder time gaining raises or promotions, and our office is located in a fairly expensive region."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Running the schools is a huge job, but at times I do wish that there was more focus on helping compensate the staff. We tend to be all overloaded with work, and yet most of us still have to work secondary jobs to have leisure income. There is also a lot of strain between the communication and hierarchy between the staff and faculty. Maybe not as much as some institutions, but still it would be nice for the some of the faculty to respect more of what the staff does."
