"I worked for Clarks for nearly 6 years in a management, training, IT support, and recruiting capacity. It is a company that, in the US, is constantly shooting itself in the foot. It makes a great product that is easy to sell and easy to support because it is customer-centric and their service policies are customer oriented. However, the organization's upper management is beset by a good old boy mindset and the home office seems more like a Harvard frat house than an actual business (and is completely clueless about what goes on in the field). The training program is a complete mess and depends entirely on the manager at the location you are working at. The area training manager assigned to you will often times lie about training you and blame you and your manager for your lack of success. On the other hand, if you get one of the few trainers that do their job, they can really help you grow in your position. Clarks over-burdens their Trainers by having them manage a store and additional projects at the same time, so don't expect them to get back to you on the scheduled basis (even the best get behind, due to the amount of work expected). As a manager you will be told that you need to stick to a 44 hour work week but will be disciplined if you do not work as many hours as needed to get your job done. If you are not a trainer or specialist in addition to being a manager, expect to work about 50 hours a week to get your job done (your supervisor will likely tell you and every other manager that you can do your job in 44 hours if you work harder, but this is a blatant lie). If you have one or more additional hats, expect to work 60 hours a week or more, especially during the holidays. To sum it up, you are completely at the mercy of your immediate supervisor. This can be a great job and it is a great product, but it gets worse as you move up. The end manager salary looks good on paper but translates to around $11-15 per hour when you factor in the hours worked."
