City of Fresno Employee

"Be prepared for the politics of working in government!"

What do you like about working at City of Fresno?

"Most of the coworkers are awesome! Great job security due to union. Compensation is inadequate unless you've been there enough years to be at the top step. Overtime is paid! (non-exempt)"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Many senior management members have quit/retired since I worked there, it may be the best chance at improvement this office has seen in years!"

What don't you like about working at City of Fresno?

"Red tape, lots of politics. Management believes they are better than the employees, and walk on them. If you happen to rock the boat, you'll never promote because management holds grudges. I've witnessed violations of law just to maintain a grudge. Management sticks together against employees. Management expects employees to contribute personal time off the clock if they wish to advance (in violation of union rules). Very much a 'them vs us' attitude, and a 'if you rub my back for 5 years I'll think about giving you a pat'. Benefit package is expensive, and you're still left with 20% after good size deductions."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Retire. Be replaced by fresh blood who care about the employees and work with instead of against them, providing opportunities for professional growth in the workplace.Add a co-pay style medical plan that costs less all around."
