"I've been working at chicos for almost 4 years. I used to love working there. Our Manager is great and the majority of the customers appreciate our hands-on sales approach and are fun and eager to have our help. If it weren't for my loyalty to our store manager, I would have left a year ago. My main gripe is that we get an hourly wage plus bonus. Bonuses used to be pretty lucrative. In the past, if a customer returned an item we would not be penalized if it was returned. We work hard to make a sale and I personally make sure the item is good for that customer. I don't just make a sale to sell. I want my customers to be happy. Due to the current retail climate, the store is always having 25% to 40% off sales. Less opportunity for us associates to sell big dollars. The customer is now trained to wait for a sale and rarely pays full price anymore. Worst of all, we have to do the same amount of work to sell, but no reward for us. And, some customers have become so nasty. In the event a customer makes a return, we lose a bonus. Our hourly pay is less than minimum wage. On top of that, chicos will have on line only sales that are not honored in the stores. So now we are forced to compete with ourselves. They have implemented an on line storefront that enables our customers to shop on line where sales associates do get a bonus. Great idea in theory, however, chicos caters to an older demographic who would rather shop in person and not online. I have never commented about an employer on line before. I'm just bitter and resent the fact that I need to find another job. I love my job, but can't pay my bills. If you don't need to bring home a paycheck and appreciate nice clothes, chicos is a great place to work."
