"Base salary is very low for the time that you have to put in to handle the case load. No holiday bonus or other bonuses- period. They likely justify this with the profit share program they have but not all attorneys qualify and if you do, you are expected to earn more than seven times your salary before that even comes into play. They hide the ball about this in the beginning and instead make promises about their system, training program, opportunity for growth, and profitability. They are quite convincing too. They will admit that you are not expected to be able to reach that profitability goal- at least not in the first five years. In my first year, I earned more than four times my salary in fees and was told that not only was I not profitable but was costing the firm money. At other firms, your base salary is higher, you have the proper staff, and you are generally expected to earn two to two and a half times your salary to be profitable."
