Carpenters are skilled craftsmen whose main focus is to build and maintain the structures of buildings and other items made of wood. A normal day of work will find a carpenter generally working outside performing manual labor on timber with tools of various kinds.
Skillset: A carpenter needs to be quite efficient working with their hands. These craftsmen also need to have extensive knowledge of a variety of different tools to perform a multitude of tasks throughout the day.
Education: There is no formal education for a carpenter. Most of the skills learned come from on the job training as an apprentice as well as working jobs through general contracting firms or trade unions found throughout the country.
Career Path: Carpentry has a variety of different fields that a carpenter can branch off into. There is anything from finish carpentry, which focuses on cabinetry and furniture making, to scenic film carpentry that generally revolves around building sets for theater and movie productions.
