"I interned here for three months. I was in a very important team and I learned a lot. It is a great experience but there is a lot of politics in this company, which should be improved to make things more efficient."
"Good agency to work with for civil service."
"I worked for CalPERS, a California State Government Agency, for many, many years and found it to be a seriously bad employer with no career future. Pervasively, Management and Co-Workers are cut-throat, discriminate, non-team orientated and do not support non-minorities, disabled or other targeted employees in work assignments, pay or job promotions, their work needs or career goals. There is too much non-merit favoritism and too many with no skills or education backing up the job they somehow obtained. Management usually is not college educated in management, so that means you will be dealing with incompetent managers who have nothing to work or skills to handle issues but being abusive, controlling or worse. It is like you're in high school again with all the bullies and immature tactics. All of my Managers have lied, covered up problems, failed to follow policies or employment laws and bore false witness against their employees. It is not a place for a hard-working, honest, well skilled or an educated quality employee. The place is a mess and cannot be changed by some new policy or training or by some new CEO or HR Manager. This is not just a few political issues, it is an Organization out of control and not accountable for their actions. I highly recommend to steer clear of this place and California State Government employment all together. CalPERS and the State of California, you have no idea how much you harm your workers every day by the way you do business with your employees."
"When I started, CalPERS was a very different State agency. Unfortunately, it has become more like the 'stereotypical' state agency. Competency is not a critical condition for promotion."
"This is a very good place to work."
