"A stable, loyal company, but procedurally bound, and lots of micro-management."
What do you like about working at Bechtel Marine Propulsion?
"There is a lot of stability within the company, and once you have attained employment here, you are almost assured of a position/career. They are very slow to hire, but once they do, they strive to keep all their employees. Additionally, there are a lot of different departments on-site, and there is an opportunity to move both horizontally and vertically within the company, and experience a lot of different positions and types of work."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"When I came into the company, as a very experienced engineer, I believe that the manager I interviewed with was not immediately forthcoming with just how tedious the work can be. So for a new engineer/scientist coming in, I would warn that getting things done will take time at Bettis, and to learn patience."
What don't you like about working at Bechtel Marine Propulsion?
"Very slow, tedious work, and not a lot of hands-on engineering takes place here. Mostly a lot of sub-contracted engineering, at least in my department. Additionally, the work is very structured, with lots of procedures & paperwork that must be filled out, which for an engineer coming from a direct manufacturing environment, can be very frustrating to get things done. Finally, as BMPC depends upon government funding, the politics of the federal government can be very frustrating on trying to get work accomplished."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Some of the managers here are very detailed oriented, and the culture encourages that. But I think that inhibits a lot of the less experienced engineers from thinking for themselves, and coming up with solutions that are outside the box. I would hope that management would work to encourage original thinking, and try to build upo a more innovative culture."
"Experienced, highly motivated Engineer with proven success in managing projects."

What don't you like about working at Bechtel Marine Propulsion?
"The work is too much desk work and not enough hands-on type stuff."
What suggestions do you have for management?
