"I’ve worked with Belk during my early 20’s. I’ve seen the company go through many changes and improvements. This company is growing exponentially in the Omni Area of sales. Belk has always been very family oriented"

"I have worked at Belk on two different occasions, and in two different states. Work life balance is a struggle. It’s easier on me since my children are grown. Hourly pay and commission is great but full time is only an average of 30-34 hours. As with any retail job, your store manager sets the tone for the moral of the store. I’ve worked under three different managers at Belk and at times it’s been difficult. But there has been some great times as well. You gotta take the good with the bad!"

"I worked at Belk for 2 years and 2 different times. Each time was completely different as the first time I was a temporary contract employee and during my second time, I was a full-time W2 employee. The company is a family environment but can be a bit clique-ish. In some departments forward advancement is based on the favoritism of the supervisor. It is a great place to begin a career in retail, but I am not sure if I would recommend them long-term."

"I have worked for Belk for 8 months and I loved it when I started. However, as of late, my job responsibilities have been spread out and it's become exceedingly difficult for me to do the job I was hired for. From what I've been able to gather, the work environment has gone downhill since Belk was sold to an investment company. They manipulate the number of hours that allowed to be used when scheduling, so associates' schedules and hours per week vary greatly. (In an effort to squeeze as much profit as possible.) They also don't like to follow the availability you gave upon hire during their Blackout dates, so be aware of that. The people working in Roanoke are good people, all the staff is wonderful. Management has good days and bad days, like any workplace. Working in HR, I have noticed some cliques, but mainly with management. If you are hired as a keyholder or HR, you are considered "management" and expected to be the manager-on-duty. Your schedule will be very inconsistent. The discount is great, but has fine print. Overall, it's still the best job I've had so far in my career."

"If you want to work at the distribution plant in union SC, DONT! Only good people are the security. If you get caught by the safety guy, he is nasty and talk dirty to every female. he even hooked up with a girl from there and he married. The boss there dont care about employees. I left cause I moved."

"I've been employed with Belk for nearly 10 years. It began promising but soon slowed as those that valued my development dwindled. Store level management are taught that meeting the sales metrics are key but get little praise when doing so. On the other hand criticism is consistent. Hourly employees are not valued highly in many regards and often left in the dark when it comes to company directives. The organization has a focus to include all employees but rarely is that passed down."

"I worked for Belk for a little over a year and that job was nothing short of chaotic. The orientation/training process consisted of me sitting in a dark room by myself in front of a TV. Not long after I started, we were left without a store manager for several months. During times we were left without a manager, I witnessed blatant favoritism and assistant managers turning a blind eye to unhealthy working conditions until an official complaint was made. My availability and state of health was often disregarded as if being told having to work was going to magically make school disappear and cure the flu. I had points deducted on performance reviews for reasons out of my control. Once I put in my two weeks, my direct supervisors acted very unprofessionally by refusing to acknowledge my existence."
