"I have worked for Autodesk more than 7 years. It is a good place to work. The work-life balance here is good. And Autodesk always provides very good and great product which may help people imagine, design and implement the better new world. At the same time, I wish my department can go faster to cloud and accomplish new cool features more to the market according to users' comments. The colleagues here are very nice and bright. I learned a lot from them. Anyway, it is a good company to work."
"It is an especially good employment opportunity for technical and engineering professionals with backgrounds in the building, transportation, or manufacturing industries with a strong interest working for the definition, marketing, etc., of software, web, and mobile tools for their industry. It is also can be a good company for computer science professionals to have their smaller company acquired by. Internal career growth and development opportunities tend to be a bit more challenging."
"I've worked for Autodesk since 2000. The company has a great vision to help people imagine, design, and create a better world. Leadership is solid, especially sales. Benefits are competitive (medical, dental, and ESPP), and for the size of the company (revenue of US $2.3 billion and 7,200+ employees in 95 locations), is a leader from a sustainability perspective. As with any company of this size, culture varies depending upon the organization and management team. Overall, a good place to work."
"It's a great place to work. I recommend it."
"Autodesk is not a bad place."
"Great place to work. Great working experience."
"I am working in current position since 7 months. I feel the organization is ok and standards are not up to the other business units in the organization."
"Autodesk has given me a great amount of experience and is a great place to start out."
"The company has a wonderful work environment, compensation, and benefits. There is a strong passion for creativity and the work/life balance is superb. It's inspiring to work for a company that allows others to create inspirational things."
"I've worked here for several years and frankly it has been a disappointment. The people in general are nice, but that is about it. The management in general does not keep it's commitments to you. Much of what is in the job description you never do and they talk about career development but there is actually very little of it. I guess the company would best be summed up by over promise, under deliver."
"Working for Autodesk gives credibility, so getting meetings with potential clients is easy. But large companies make decisions and changes slowly, so closing business deals took longer than desirable."
"Drastic overspending, undercommitted to employees."
What do you like about working at Autodesk?
"Smart employees, nice buildings, nice offices for the most part."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Worklife seems flexible but it is not -- it's constant availability. Cold environment."
What don't you like about working at Autodesk?
"In my experience they were cutting marrow and bone and to the detriment of the company, carelessly, and without regard for people who had devoted themselves to the company, some of them for decades, and apparently because some of these folks were at the higher income levels. Senseless spending, senseless cuts, mindless, cold, calculating, unpleasant place to work. At times bordering on cruelty in its coldness. In my own situation I feel delighted to be free of the company, but I was completely devoted and I do believe it was a senseless cut. As one admin said, Autodesk is spending like a drunken sailor, and I witnessed the senselessness first hand and then the cruelty of the cuts. They then asked many employees to come back as temporary workers without benefits and at lower wages."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Take a look at ALL spending, as if you were a family on a budget; stop senseless overspending and keep employees who make money for the company."
"90% Stick and 10% Carrot Culture with the Owners enriching themselves."
What do you like about working at Autodesk?
"Microdesk (est. 1994) is still a very immature organization which does not value Sales Professionals who produce and have a large amount of business experience; a large part of this is due to the inexperienced owner's leadership and limited organizational experience. Some examples: There are no annual performance reviews, no Chairman's Club or performance bonuses, and there is no visual road map of how to advance in this company. If you over-perform your quota, you will be thanked with an 80% hike in your quota the following next fiscal year with no performance review and no rewards (ie, performance raise). The Little Carrot: $250 1st place and $150 2nd place weekly scorecard winners based on metrics the sales leadership has put in place. Unfortunately, much like the comp plan given to you, the scorecard is riddled traps and is also manually put together and mistakes are often made and new reps have learned to game the program. The Leadership: Much of the VP's on the sales side are clearly handcuffed and they mostly act as lame ducks serving the owner by regurgitating data the sales team in their respective regions have already communicated to them on their one-on-ones. The VP's have to take weekly rantings and beat-downs by the Owner. The commission plan changes every year and further traps are placed so that high performing reps are not allowed to make any real compensation above the average of $80K a year. Why Go Work Here 1. Sales: Do so if you have less than 5 years of work experience. 64 Sales Reps have come and gone since 2006 for just 4 offices; average employee stays between 9-20 months. 2. Industry experience and knowledge, but don't expect rewards, accolades, or positive reinforcement of any kind."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Questions to Ask Microdesk in an Interview:1. How many of your current reps have been here longer than 4 years Is there anyone with 8 years or longer Reverse: How many reps on the team have been here less than 2 years2. How many of the reps have actually earned six figures as a result of doing $2M in sales"
What don't you like about working at Autodesk?
"Endless traps laid out in commission plans so you can't really make six figure incomes here. Constant crazy changes and re-training because of high turn over."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Get a CLUE: Treat people like you value them and they will stay longer!"
"the work-life balance was promoted but never followed in the SWD"
What do you like about working at Autodesk?
"Working on really cool products with extremely bright and talented people."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Try to find someone working at the company as there is an employee referral program."
What don't you like about working at Autodesk?
"Too stressful, all about the deadlines. Never time to stop and think about how to improve or learn new skills."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Management makes all the decisions, never asks or listens to what employees have to say. Promote team-building and reward people on the department level for good work. Too much outsourcing."
What do you like about working at Autodesk?
"Great people and company who want to change the world by creating software that enables other people to make the real changes."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Know the engineering and design worlds as they exist today and ask questions about how Autodesk is trying to shake those worlds up."
What don't you like about working at Autodesk?
"On the whole there are some pretty miserable managers. It's not that they couldn't be good, it's that they've never been trained to do their jobs well."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I would push divisions to cross-pollinate more often. There is a strong 'me first' culture that is left over from the previous CEO."
