"I liked the challenge of trying to dig a failing company out of the hole. They had been declining in sales for several years, and were looking to double in sales the year I was there."

"Negotiate your benefits and pay upfront, and make sure you understand what they are before accepting a position."

What don't you like about working at Alaniz Construction?

"The CEO wouldn't give budget for anything because of negative cash flow, so most marketing techniques were no-cost. They were heavily focused on Yellow Pages advertising and direct mail when I started, and were unwilling to try more inbound and online techniques. There were no benefits, and the company was poorly managed."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"If you want to attract good talent, you need to work on your employment brand and offer competitive compensation and benefits. To keep talent, you need to recognize results."
