Skillset: The accounting supervisor must first be very good with numbers. They must be able to understand budgets and balance sheets. On top of those skills, they must be able to communicate with employees and leaders of many different departments within a company. This makes communication skills very important.
Education: A person in this position will typically have a background in accounting. An undergraduate degree in accounting might suffice. In many cases, though, you would need a masters of public accountancy to truly climb the ladder to this position. This is one position where accounting knowledge and expertise is more important than the management training.
Career Path: An accounting supervisor might first start out as a staff accountant within a company. Taking on an internship can help a person show his or her worth. From there, it is important to get some entry-level experience before trying to climb to this job.
