Account managers handle the supervision of advertising, banking or business accounts. They provide training and support to account marketers and also work to make sure the client is satisfied. On an average day, an account supervisor may review portfolios, give a business presentation using computer software and graphics, and send emails to business clients.
Skillset: Account managers have a keen ability to identify a client’s needs and work to create a business or marketing plan to meet these needs. People who succeed in this line of work have exceptional writing and public speaking abilities and are able to grab a person’s attention through creative presentations and effective business branding.
Education: Account managers typically have a solid background in business and marketing. A bachelor or masters degree in advertising, business law, communications and finance are preferred degrees for anyone who wants to pursue this type of occupation. Account managers work in fine arts industries, finance industries, agriculture, manufacturing and design.
Career Path: A foundation for a solid career in account managing is based on excellent business skills, creativity and an awareness of current retail and marketing trends. Computer graphic courses, mathematics classes and business leadership classes are strongly recommended.
