"There are NEVER hours because they are always cutting payroll, which has been a major issue for the past few years. As they are cutting all present employees hours, they are also hiring new people. Convenient to the company, but very inconvenient and unfair to those who have this as an only job, whether a single parent with not much money to feed their kids every night, or even for a college student who has to work to pay for tuition. There is always a "preference" or "favoritism" as to who should do what, who should be in charge, who gets what hours, etc. There should be no reason for the person making the schedule to ask employees what days they WANT to work. It's really unfair and no company should allow that to happen. A rotating schedule should be considered so that way everyone has a chance to have a weekend off. At one point I felt discriminated against because for quite some time I was overlooked at when I wanted to step up the ladder and never given the opportunity to grown within the company; there were always excuses. There is a lot of work to do with no help and it makes people feel undervalued. Not fair to have ONE single person working the front desk with customers making enormous amounts of returns PLUS purchases PLUS answering incoming calls PLUS having to process merchandise at the front desk when you're by yourself from 9 am opening time until 3 hours later when the "help" arrives. If you're looking for a full-time position...KEEP LOOKING! The customers can be awful at times, but as long as you provide good Customer Service they will be on the same page as you. After 7 years, and so many more issues i'm calling it quits!"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The recruiter for a job opening should not be the sole person making a decision on an internal applicant. I applied for a HR position having more than 15 years and the recuiter totally dispelled my experience but rathered focused on what my current job was at Marshalls."

What don't you like about working at Marshalls?

"I think their recruiting efforts to continuye to build internal bench strength can be more interactive, proactive and fair with respect to considering a person's total scope and depth of their career experience and what each individual brings to the table."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Consider all internal applicants that bring comparable experience to specific job openings, particularly if a professional lost his/her job as a result of a lay-off but yet on-boarded with Marshall's and they applied for a professional job opening, don't just focus on what that person's current job position is at store level."
