Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you are looking at an IT position, just be aware that you will have no free time between Labor Day and the end of January. You may have to give up holidays if projects are going badly or business can't make decisions."

What don't you like about working at H&R Block?

"Constant change of senior leadership. Indecision on where the company was going and, as a result, what changes need to be made to applications to support the business."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Infuse leadership into upper management and get rid of micromanaging."

"It is nice having some levity about the work that I do."

"Ask real questions about what you will be doing and get salary information before you start."

"There are practically no reviews or guidance from the leadership, with the exception of the layoff exit interview, and all goals are based solely on metrics."

"Have actual medical benefits, more regular employees, and real goals and reviews."

"Too much change. There is an annual reorganization that leaves the work force reeling every year..."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Not have every new leader come in and swing for the fence with change."

"I worked for H&R Block since 2008. I only received a 50 cent raise the whole time. While I was there, went through 4 managers. Some even ended up as my co-workers. The people were fun to work with."

"H&R Block is an enigma. There is so much potential yet the company cannot innovate to save its life. It is full of professionals who only desire to keep their jobs and never achieve greatness. Like a government office, people do the minimum to get by and never risk being noticed by being bold. The leadership has an ivory tower approach and their locked-down, security laden top floor proves this. The company is only focused on shareholder value while clients and employees suffer."

"Don't have much data handy, but a great company with a customer oriented model. One of the largest seasonal part time employers in the country. An established name in tax preparation for people of any area of operation, business or else. Have a great training system so that even with no background you become tax preparer. Thus a grand business model."

The ability to move up depends on both the department you work in, and willingness to look for positions in other departments of yours had little potential. The CFO has taking strides to reduce expenses significantly over the past few years, sometimes at the reduction of employee benefits."
