"Boeing is an excellent company and having the opportunity to work at this 100 year plus company and Icon of American Industry was the best opportunity one could aspire to have. They invested so much in me as an employee I am profoundly grateful. Everything I learned there, every skill, will yield many dividends to any future employer."

Systems Engineer

What do you like about working at Boeing?

"Excellent place to allow me to fully utilize my extensive engineering background in a diverse manner amongst many engineers, being able to evaluate, and even help troubleshoot software/hardware problems, in order to get a great product out the door in a timely fashion, along with chances to effectively work with management, with Boeing Level 5 Management authority."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Emphasize one's engineering experience, especially if it is broad. Education is of course a minimum to share, as with most engineering companies."

What don't you like about working at Boeing?

"Since I worked as a contractor, there tends to still be a lower treatment of this group. There was no real offer of becoming a Boeing employee, even before the economic downturn, that forced them to get rid of all their contractors. Nevertheless, this is a relatively minor complaint, since what I liked at Boeing outweighed what I disliked."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be more proactive in considering good contractors to more quickly consider making room for them as fellow Boeing employees."

What don't you like about working at Boeing?

"Work is cyclic. By that I mean they hire a lot of people to design an aircraft, then lay them all off when the design is complete. Cycle occurs approximately every 10 to 15 years."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Try to even out work load so work is not so cyclic. Also, you need a SW development department. You are losing an understanding of what it means to write avionic SW since you now only rely on other companies to do that work. Knowing how to read RTCA-DO-178B DOES NOT Make you experts or knowledgeable in Software Development."
