"AEP is a great company. Take the time to understand the electric business because every job is about supplying electric, not just typing."

"For a company that is so insightful and plans Billion dollar projects, upper management makes too many knee jerk reactions."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"In the 32 years I worked there it seemed like there was always these huge swings is levels of employment. Figure it out. Letting people go is always bloody."

"The work is meaningful, you're literally providing power to the people. The electric utility is the bedrock of modern civilization and it's great to be a part of that."

"The company is really interested in what you do outside of work hours to maintain your professional edge and stay abreast with the latest IT tools and technologies."

What don't you like about working at American Electric Power?

"Limited career mobility and progression, in part because people don't want to leave!"

"For employees that have been with the firm for several years (decades) it's challenging to change or improve business processes - fighting the that's how we've always done it syndrome."

"I felt that I had control of my career. I worked hard and proved my professionalism. Once that happened, I was able to pursue the responsibilities I thought were most beneficial to me and the company."

"AEP recognizes leadership. Be confident and present yourself as a professional."

What don't you like about working at American Electric Power?

"There were several re-organizations over the years that I worked there. Because I was not in a visionary role for these changes, decisions were made that I did not understand or agree with."

"The suggestions I had for management were case by case. Some of my suggestions were around resource management, communication, or even project based. I appreciated that I was able to make suggestions at all levels."

"Not worth the effort put forth to accomplish the job."

"Run, run for the hills and never come back. Training is fine, and is presented in such a way that makes it seem easy. But the company is a train wreck and so is the job."

"Terrible management, Terrible Customers. ineffectually run from the top down."

"Recognize employees through all work teams. More employee compensations and programs to help."

"Be yourself and also be honest with yourself if you don't think a challenging work environment is for you don't accept the responsibility because it makes everyone willing to task that much harder."

"Don't be afraid to accept advice from employee's whose pay grade, or title is lower than your's. That advice might be another company's treasure."
