Tegrant Corporation pioneered three packaging brands that remain an important part of the Sonoco product line. Alloyd is retail packaging designed to enhance brand appeal. Protexic is a "green" line of packaging. ThermoSafe is heat-resistant packaging designed for the health care, automotive and consumer electronics industries.

Tegrant Corporation began its existence as SCA Packaging North America, a subsidiary of the global consumer goods and paper company SCA. In 2007, SCA sold its North American packaging operations to the private equity firm Metalmark Capital, which changed the name of its acquisition to Tegrant. The new name was chosen to suggest the word "integrity."
