Working at Sutherland Global Services in Rochester, NY: 11 Employee Reviews

Sutherland Global Services Employee

"I worked for Sutherland Global since 2008; not only have I been given the chance to move forward within the company but I've also been given the opportunity to participate in Six Sigma and Master Coaching. Sutherland acknowledges all the hard work their teams do and rewards in many ways which continues the drive in us."

"By far the worst experience of my life. I would rather be electrocuted daily."

What do you like about working at Sutherland Global Services?

"My tolerance for alcohol increased quite a bit while I was here. I did meet some nice people."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Do not interview with this company. The standards to get a job here is low however. If you have a pulse and can fog a mirror you have a job. Doesnt mean it is worth it even in this downtrodden economy. Burger joints will treat you better and pay more actually."

What don't you like about working at Sutherland Global Services?

"The atmosphere. Being told as a salaried employee that while I am paid for 40 - if I am not working 80 hours I am not working enough. I never appreciated being pulled into my managers office to be screamed at for not meeting goals. I hated hearing our group being told with regularity how awful we were. We were never offered the proper tools to perform our jobs and when we would ask we would be shot down and reminded that You can be replaced at the blink of an eye. Its common practice for people who have a slight dislike of another to find a way to fire them. Management operates on a boys club level and unless you are in the group of cool kids from day one - expect that you will not be treated fairly in any way, shape or form. It is common place to hear everyone speak of the Sutherland Slump or Lifer way of thinking. Anyone who has been there for more than 6 months can be spotted quickly walking in the halls. Head down, looking lifeless and close to tears at any moment. After 2 years working here - if you have survived that long with the MASS turn over rate and firing sprees (not even related to call volume changes. Generally related to finding and removing anyone who has learned to work the system to get paid what is deserved or who knows more than they should) you will likely not know what day it is, not know the time and move sluggishly down the hall merely to stretch your legs from the cave of a desk provided. Speaking of what is provided here. You need to supply your own pens, paper, etc. You will be lucky to get your own desk. This means that many people will be sharing your keyboard and mouse. Bring LOTS of hand sanitizer. You will get sick often. Cleaning desks is not completed by the cleaners either. That is an employees responsibility. You will also be lucky to have your OWN headset. Yes, this means other people have been coughing, sneezing, sharing headsets with one another just to do their job. And remember you cannot call out sick. You will be promptly written up, disciplined and verbally brow beat for missing time. The only way to not get in trouble for being ill is to be so sick you must leave in an ambulance. I have seen first hand people getting sick at their desks and not being sent home because call volume is too high.I could go on for days with the things I experienced here in my 4 plus years of survival mode. Overall - I do not like a single thing this company has to offer whatsoever. Avoid at all costs."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would say cleaning house from the top to bottom would be ok. But because this is such a poisonous environment and there is no amount of exorcising the upper brass to clear the demons from their black souls to make anything better - the company is honestly best just closing their doors and sparing the souls of those hapless individuals who have no idea what torture they are in for."
