Working at Starbucks in San Clemente, CA: 1 Employee Reviews

Assistant Manager

"Constant movement and fun atmosphere. It's the best bar - without all the drunks."

What do you like about working at Starbucks?

"I liked that I was asked to work at other stores to help fill in the schedule. It's all the same procedures but a different crowd wherever you went. Sometimes I'd see repeat customers from my home store and that was nice, I could quickly make their drink and help that morning line move as fast as possible. I liked the training process, we had to go to Starbucks University and taste all coffees, compare with store bought brands and document these experiences. That way we knew how to describe one coffee from another. I learned skills on engineering machines that I never knew I had in me. They have recently gone to fully automatic machines and I'm sad about that, but, hey, in this fast world, you gotta have fast machines. My growth in that company happened fast! I had awards and bonuses and still loved every bit of the friendly competition."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"BE KNOWLEDGEABLE! Coffee is no joke to these people and if you have the passion they do, this won't even feel like a job."

What don't you like about working at Starbucks?

"Early in the morning sifts (4am) was a bit much for a budding college student but it was nice to have my day over my mid afternoon. There was ALWAYS new drinks and products to learn, it was hard to keep up when traveling from store to store."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I know this company is worldwide, and their methods have made this a successful Fortune 500 company. There are some managers that I feel were too un-informed of standards and procedures, and I feel that a bit more training could have been placed. The movement from a cashier to barista to shift lead to manager is a tough road, but a good road if the person has enough patience and great observation skills."
