"Sales reps are important for sales. Treat them that way."
What do you like about working at Norban & Associates?
"The sales reps are self-employed. You are working as an independent manufacturers rep selling through the medical supplies companies to their customers (doctors and hospitals). If you know medical sales, its not that hard. You get up in the morning and go sell. It's not a large company, just one owner that works out of her house. I'm not sure if there are silent investors. The different manufacturer lines seem to be decent. Med-Tech Associates has proven this type of sales organization can be very successful."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Make sure the owner understands up front you are not an employee and will not be treated as one. Also, you should always support the distributor rep who is selling to doctor's office. That is the right thing. If the owner insists that you switch the customer to a different rep, that is the wrong thing. Doing the right thing will probably cost you your sales position."
What don't you like about working at Norban & Associates?
"The owner doesn't seem to respect the legal definition of independent contractor. SB459 says the company cannot tell an Independent Sales Representative what you do, when to do it or where to do it. This owner calls constantly, evenings and weekends, and expects you to do anything she says. She expects updated reports multiple times a week. Once, she made up an excuse to stop by my house, while my wife was gone. She wanted to go my upstairs office, saying she needed to show me something on SalesForce that was real important. I wasnt about to do go upstairs with her. I asked my daughter to come out of her room so we could use her laptop. The owner insisted on going upstairs to use my computer. What she eventually showed me on SalesForce was dumb. Months after leaving, I sent a letter to her (and her attorney) asking that she stop following me on the Internet, explaining that its kind of creepy. This company has a lot of turnover"
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Companies that choose to work with ISRs (according to SB459) do it to keep their overhead low. The employer does not pay employee taxes or employee benefits. It's good for the company and the ISR. Misclassifying an employee as an Independent Sales Representative is illegal and comes with numerous fines and penalties. Also, single females who own a company should not be going to a workers home, unless invited. It puts the entire company in legal jeopardy and makes it look like the joke of the industry. It also puts the ISR in an awkward position."

What do you like about working at Blue Cross Blue Shield?
"I liked the in-depth training for any position acquired."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Make sure you have a strong medical terminology background (or take classes to achieve it), coupled with a customer-focused approach. The patient needs assistance understanding the complexities of their insurance policy, so be patient with them as you work through this thick description information."
What don't you like about working at Blue Cross Blue Shield?
"I disliked the first time with BCBSMA working in the grey areas, non-compliant. The second time was fantastic. I'd still be there if they didn't mandate a PharmD for my position."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Continue investing in your employees through education opportunities. It was one of the main reasons I excelled in my career with BCBSMA"
