"Maxim is one of the most poorly managed companies I have ever encountered — I wish I had stayed with my former employer. Two employees were brought in to fill benefits positions, due to staff leaving. Management was mainly working from home and left two employees to train us, who were overburdened in their roles and uncomfortable with training. I was resented for asking too many questions, but the SOP documents were outdated, and management was largely absent. Because I pointed out things (from my own experience) that a team member was doing incorrectly and that I was witnessing knowledge gaps regarding benefits that should not exist, I was despised by a team member who reported me to management and played the victim to try to get rid of me. She didn't speak to me for two months. Her coworker lied to my face, telling me she was transferring to another area of the department because "she had waited it out for six months." It was obvious she was having more and more work dumped on her. However, she went to management and told them that I was the problem, and she was buddy-buddy with the other employee giving me the silent treatment. There is an issue effecting travelers and caregivers with local offices not following procedure, that effects their paychecks. We would get calls all day on this issue, and were just told to refer it back to the local offices, who often didn't know how to resolve the issue, or were avoidant, so I had to repeatedly escalate cases to my manager to resolve. The company knew this had been going on for years, but refused to hold local office staff accountable and to create a structured process for resolution of these issues. When I brought up the concern, I got a lot of "this is the way it has always been" and it was very clear it was appeasement and nothing would be done. The company has a culture of "keep your head down, do your job, and shut up." It's not surprising they were fined $150 million in 2011."
