"They give you every chance to be successful. Even after some major screw-ups, they still give you a chance to prove it was an honest mistake, unless it's something egregious like theft or fraud."

"Be completely honest with your interviewer. Retail is definitely not for everyone, and if you're honest upfront, you'll save yourself a lot of time."
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
"The pay is good at face-value, but when you factor in the cost of health insurance for a family, your take-home pay drops significantly."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Although the company has made good strides to roll out more options for healthcare coverage, they are still super-expensive."

What do you like about working at Nordstrom?
"They were the most informative of all the companies I have worked for. They gave me the foundation I needed to become successful in marketing, LP and retail in general. They have a great rapport with the consumer and their employees."

"There are many expectations that Nordstrom looks for. They are stringent in how they market themselves, so be very aware of this during the interview and job, if applicable."
What don't you like about working at Nordstrom?
"Looking back, I have nothing but fond memories, and although the workload was heavy, it really helped to learn how to prioritize."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Keep listening to the employees and the consumer, and the continued success will be guaranteed."

"This was a different pace and different industry than I was used to. It was challenging in that aspect and it gave me that chance to understand how this market works. It was good to give that insight and it was something I can use in the future."

"Again, this is a different industry than the traditional retail workplace. If this is an area you are familiar with, it is a great place to work. Please ensure you know the industry prior to working."

"I don't think I disliked it so much as I missed the traditional retail corporations. I felt more useful when I was engaged in that industry."

"Management were understanding and respectful in the needs of the employee. I'm not sure I would have any constructive criticism for them."

"The availability of staff was conducive to the flow of business and marketing purposes. The constant change allowed us to build on staff development and encouragement."

"It is fast-paced and requires an eye for detail. This was something that I wanted and enjoyed, and it is something you need to have an understanding about."
What don't you like about working at Sears?
"There were occasions where I was restricted in the number of staff. During peak times, my need will vary according to sales and this was not always accounted for."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Completely understand that in retail we have to have backup plans at high volume times. Marketing plans will draw in customers depending on the campaign, and this needs to be accounted for in staff numbers."

"Limited resources. Since the hotel's occupancy count varied, department managers were encouraged to do more with less."

"I did not like that often in a desire to hire former military, that a person's resume was not looked at as close as it should have been."

"Allow the freedom of ideas to help both the security and retail sides to grow."

"The training is thorough. After three months you should have complete knowledge of how to perform your job."

"Be ready to work like a dog. The hours are tough and the travel wears on you."
What don't you like about working at Sears?
"Sears only believes in results. You put in a rigorous three-month training that includes self-study and buddy/peer training. The training period is not respected, however. You are still held accountable for things you may not have even been trained on yet. Management is constantly over your shoulder and in some cases, watching over you with hidden cameras. You put in a 48+ hour work week which can easily turn into 65 without notice. Extensive travel within the tri-county area is required."

"Respect the training period and work/life balance of all employees."

"I like the good hours and rewarding work, with pleasant people (usually) to work with."

"There are tests to take and many questions and forms."

"There is no job security. Also, they are not consistent with some essential policies."

"Strive to be more consistent with people management and regulation of hours."

"The interview process was fair and thorough. There are plenty of opportunities available."

"Be ready to work like a dog, be micro managed, and then fired for no reason at all."
What don't you like about working at Kmart?
"The training plan is not being followed. You are expected to perform immediately. Your training time is not respected. There is no loyalty. Very high turnover. People either quit or are fired prematurely."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Please respect your new hire's training time. Don't expect them to perform without training. Have patience. Do not micro manage. Create a culture of empowerment. Let your people do what you hired them to do."
