Kaiser Permanente, headquartered in Oakland, California, is a non-profit integrated managed care consortium. Their mission is to provide quality care for all members and their families. The company contributes to the well-being of its communities. Kaiser Permanente has 8.7 million health plan members, 35 medical centers, and 431 medical offices. They schedule 36 million outpatient visits and perform 547,000 surgeries on average every year. Their strong ratings were due to its strong emphasis on preventive care, its doctors earning more per year than all other medical groups, and its attempts to minimize the costs of their patients.

The company is separated into three distinct groups:

• Kaiser Health Plan and regional operating subsidiaries – they are administered through eight U.S. regions. This includes one parent and five subordinate health plan entities, one hospital entity, and nine affiliated medical groups. The eight regions KP supports are Northern California, Southern California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, the Mid-Atlantic, Northwest, and Ohio.

• Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals – this division has a single Board of Directors, which is the ultimate governing body. Each region is headed by an individual president. Each of these presidents reports to a national leadership team member.

• Permanente Medical Groups – This is run by physician executives who report to the board of directors. All groups having varying profit structures.
