"I have worked for the Gensler San Jose office for over 3 years. It is not a typical Gensler office in that our culture is more relaxed. People are friendly, and the work environment is flexible. There used to be a strong culture that was fun, but some expansion/contraction in the staffing has done away with that. This and the low rate of pay for the area and for the workload have made it a less than desirable place to work for me. However, as a firm, there are a lot of interesting projects."

"It was my first job out of CCA. It's changed now, but then it was a more superficial environment. Full of itselg and difficult to negotiate the egos there. It's a difference place now. I have good friends in principal positions there and the climate is very different. I told Arthur Gensler this myself back in the day. He was suprised by it and said that he would change it. He did."

What do you like about working at Gensler?

"What I liked most about working at Gensler is that it is the best in the industry. I like being identified with people who do their best and produce the highesst level of design possible. I like the energy that happens when you have a group of people who work together who have those same ideals. It was pretty fantastic that way, even though it was a short lived position. I think it worked out just as it was supposed to work out."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just to be yourself and show the best that you have to offer. Gensler is the #! design firm in this country. They want #1 style people. If you feel that way about yourself, then you don't even need to try, you're already what they want and you're already what you want for yourself."

What don't you like about working at Gensler?

"That at the time, employees spent more money on the clothes to look the part and lived in realtive simple apts. I always thought that odd, since for me, the most important thing is my passion, Interior Design. I put my passion into my home, first, and then fashion. I like both, but there is nothing that I love more than interiors, so my home needs to refelct that or I'm not being true to myself."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"It was a long time ago. The management style has changed a lot since then. As I've said, I have friends in high positions there now and I think that they are doing a great job and have made the company much more accessible."
