"I have worked at Gensler for 14 years, had the opportunity to work various types of projects and learn from each project experience and challenge with the support of great mentors. Gensler provides opportunities to work with different offices. It also provides the employee with good benefits as Stock and Bonds."
"Great company and opportunity to work with outstanding clients and incredibly talented people."
"Good experience. At the end of the day, life is what you make it. The more you put in the more you get out of it."
"How is this pertinent to the future position?"
"I worked here for a year. Things start out great, but, you will work remotely under pretentious Architects & Designers who are mainly there to support other technical employees and not Admin.’s. Most managers are all friends and unless you “play nice,” or “drink the cool-aid,” they will turn against you and support one another. Colleagues will be generally nice, but, some won’t say anything to you because you are not in a high-ranking role. The atmosphere is smiles on the outside, but, fake underneath and if you aren’t liked by members of the team, they will make you feel uncomfortable. People will not have your back. 50 percent, or more, of your role will be cleaning up after other people. If you complain, they will pacify you, but, your role is viewed as expendable and you will still be expected to do it. There is no promotion beyond Studio Coordinator for this role, in this city. There are lot’s of events and if you want to be promoted, you are expected to attend. Bottom line is…if you can play nice (be fake) and keep a low profile, you should be successful."
"Great place to work, and amazing quality of work."
"I’ve worked at Gensler for two years now and I have to say it’s been quite the experience. Great office for high-quality design."
"Great job environment! Great people!"
"It is an ok place if you like free food and drink but it is hectic and unorganized."
"I have worked for the Gensler San Jose office for over 3 years. It is not a typical Gensler office in that our culture is more relaxed. People are friendly, and the work environment is flexible. There used to be a strong culture that was fun, but some expansion/contraction in the staffing has done away with that. This and the low rate of pay for the area and for the workload have made it a less than desirable place to work for me. However, as a firm, there are a lot of interesting projects."
What do you like about working at Gensler?
"Based on the experience I have brought in, there is a lot of pressure on me to grow Gensler's footprint in the Federal market. I enjoy being responsible for strategizing th strategic direction for how to do this."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Be yourself. Gensler truly appreciates individuality. Each person is brought on for a particular expertise. The firm looks for people who are proud of their expertise and aren't looking for conform to what they think the firm wants them to be."
What don't you like about working at Gensler?
"Currently, the office is too small to accommodate the staff. To solve this, Gensler has implemented a bench style seating plan. Consequently, this leads to a lack of privacy, and lack of space to hold meetings and/or conference calls."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I think the management of Gensler is highly successful in allowing employees to accomplish what they are specialized at. If I were to offer any suggestions, it would be to allow employees greater opportunities to branch out of their specialization and explore the other practice areas within the firm."
